Teaser Tuesday (69)

Hello, everyone! Teaser Tuesday is here again. This weekly, bookish meme is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

Rules for participating:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser is from Mastiff by Tamora Pierce. I love this trilogy; I've had this book on my TBR pile since I heard there was a sequel to Bloodhound.

(I don't really like this cover. It isn't the worst, but at first glance it looks like her head's on backwards and the background doesn't seem real.)

I have been in many woods since partnering with Achoo, and this was the strangest I had seen. The trees were spaced wide apart and much of the ground cover seemed to be moss, not grass. The streams had bridges that were as much ornament as structure needed for water crossing.

You got me looking very very closely at the book cover design now!! And yes... the head is all wrong..!

Lovely teaser though - oh but why the name Achoo? But if it's a dog's name that's ok - I say dog because the cover has pics of doggies on it, so Achoo is a cute name if it's a name of a doggie.

I am going now!

Take care
x

I want to read so badly, but I'm torn between buying it now OR waiting for the paperback to complete the set. Eek! :D

(Agree about the cover though. I think BLOODHOUND is probably my favorite.)

You are right about that picture, it looks like she has the same qualities as an owl: they can turn their heads a long way around.

You sentences were really intriguing I wonder why the woodland is so ornamental, I'll need to read to find out :)

I see what you mean about the cover. Odd.

That's an interesting teaser. Very descriptive.

My teaser is from Beth Revis's A MILLION SUNS. http://surroundedbybooksreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/teaser-tuesdays-million-suns-by-beth.html

It does look like her head is backwards on the cover. At least, it looks painful.

The teaser is good though.

Nancy Thompson said...

Haha! You're right. Her head does look likes it's on backwards!

Ah, my book this week is Michael Crichton's Next. I must say, I am terribly disappointed. I'm 2/3 of the way through and there's still NO PLOT! So I won't even bother with 2 lines. Totally disappointing. And MC is one of my faves, too.

It does look like her head is on backwards. How odd.

great teaser - bad cover. It DOES look like her head is on backwards!

I'm not crazy about this teaser, but I am still in awe of how much you read!

I've heard many good things about that series. I hope you enjoy it :)

I'm about to start a new read today - just haven't decided which one from the TBR pile :)

The head is truly strange, looks like some poltergiest type deal.

Gorgeous language, but I agree about the cover. Happy Reading!

*lol* I agree with the head! And oh my do I LOVE Tamora Pierce :) awesome choice!

Her head does look like it's on backwards. LOL.

Here is my teaser

That is a very awkward pose they have the girl in on the cover. It creeps me out a bit!

From "Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?" by Jeanette Winterson.

"When my mother was angry with me, which was often, she said,'The Devil led us to the wrong crib.'

The image of Satan taking time off from the Cold War and McCarthyism to visit Manchester in 1960 - purpose of visit: to deceive Mrs. Winterson - has a flamboyant theatricality to it."

You're so right about the cover... now I can't stop staring at it... :) Nice teaser.

Rachel Morgan said...

Haha, I was thinking the exact same thing about her head! I had to look closely at the picture to see that she's actually facing away. The typeface for the title is cool though...

Emily Rose said...

I've read some of Tamora Pierce's books...they're pretty good! The cover is a bit odd (esp. her head:/).

Julie @ Knitting and Sundries said...

I'm with you on the cover; it IS kind of weird, but based on your rec, I'm going to look up this series. Thanks for sharing!

Charles Gramlich said...

I'm afraid I left my primary current read in the bathroom this morning when I left for work. :(

Jay Noel said...

When I saw that picture, that angle of her head freaked me out!

Not a fan of the cover either. Looks like a postcard in the background. But great teaser.

Shallee said...

Beautiful description! I enjoy Tamora Pierce, though I haven't read this one. Thanks for sharing!

Jen Chandler said...

Oooh I like this! It really paints a picture of the world the character inhabits. Kind of reminds me of when I spent some time in Colorado, the way the snow fell through the aspen trees and made the world like magical.

Happy Wednesday!

Old Kitty: I have to wonder why they did it that way!

Yes, it's the dog's name. :)

Marieke: Maybe see if the library has it and buy the paperback once it's out?

Terrier is my favorite. You can see her eyes in that one!

Elaine: Yup.

It's the royal forest; the king and queen (referred to as "Their Majesties" in the book) have a summer palace there.

Cherie: Odd is the word!

M: Painful covers usually put me off reading a book; but I adore this trilogy, so I'm ignoring it. :P

I'm glad you liked the teaser!

Nancy: I'm sorry to hear it's disappointing. :( I hate books that do that!

Michael: It is.

Mshatch: Thanks!

I wish they'd had her facing forward; or even looking to the side.

J. A.: Teaser Tuesday usually drives me to read. :P I don't like posting teasers from the same book for more than one week in a row . . . LOL.

Jemi: Thank you!

There are always so many choices, aren't there? :)

Pat: Yup.

Andrea: I love the way Pierce writes.

Nicole: Thanks!

She's one of my favorite Fantasy authors.

Brooke: It's strange that they'd do that . . .

Christine: Me, too. I think they should have picked a different image for the cover!

Belle: That is a rather comical image. :)

Tfwalsh: LOL. Sorry you can't stop looking at it now--it did the same thing to me.

(Maybe that was the point of having such a strange pose . . .)

Glad you liked the teaser!

Rachel: I agree. It's one of my favorite typefaces. :)

Emily: Yeah; they did a much better job on some of her other covers.

Julie: You're welcome!

Hope it piques your interest. :)

Charles: Aw, it's too bad you didn't have your read with you!

Jay: I'm glad you enjoyed the teaser, at least. :)

Shallee: You're welcome!

Jen: I love watching snow fall. It really is magical . . .

Nezzy: Thank you!

LOL. Er, sorry about that.

That sounds like an interesting landscape.

I agree with the others about the angle of that woman's head.

Emily R. King said...

The book cover is odd, but the caption you posted is intriguing. It sounds like a good read. I'll have to look the trilogy up. Thanks!

Bethany Elizabeth said...

Oh cool! Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that cover, but it sounds like an awesome book nonetheless!

Stephen Tremp said...

Maybe her head is on straight and she has the ability to turn her body around.

I sent you an email and it kept coming back. If you didn't receive it, please email me at stephen.tremp@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Misha Gericke said...

Hmm.. it isn't a really good cover. I'm reading persuasion by Jane Austen, but it's slow going while my characters are making a noise in my head.

....Petty Witter said...

Loving your teaser, but like yourself I don't like the cover - you are right in that her head looks like it is on back to front.

Mina Burrows said...

I'm not a big fan of the cover either, but after reading the teaser...I'm sufficiently teased! Thanks for sharing.

Beth said...

My daughter loves Tamora Pierce, and I've always meant to read her books.

The Golden Eagle said...

Medeia: It's the royal forest.

Strange, isn't it? :P

Emily: You're welcome!

Hope you find it interesting. :)

Bethany: It's a great trilogy!

Stephen: LOL. Maybe!

I got your email--I'll reply to you shortly. :)

Misha: Is it positive noise? Or the "you're making us do evil things and we don't want to" noise?

Petty Witter: Glad you enjoyed it!

Mina: Anytime. :)

Beth: You should try them sometime. They're really good books! (IMO.)
