Teaser Tuesday (79)

Teaser Tuesday is a bookish meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week, my teaser is from Fugitives by Alexander Gordon Smith. It's the fourth book in the Escape from Furnace series and is YA/Adventure. The books are . . . well, gory, for lack of a better word. There are some disturbing scenes, but the main character's voice shines, the writing is quite good, and the plot takes  crazy turns. I usually finish Smith's books in a single day.

I stumbled, felt hands grab my arms. I stared to my side, but I couldn't make out who was there, my vision had become an ocean of dirty white flecked with sparks.

Reading anything interesting? Got a teaser to share?

Great teaser - and I love an adventure. This sounds like something I'd enjoy. Adding it to my teetering TBR pile!

That sounds like an adventurous read...
I'm almost done with The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. What a story - simple yet powerful, with a universal appeal.

How have I not heard of this series? The teaser sounds really cool! My teaser is from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Nice teaser. I like the cover, too.

I'm reading Michael Oufft's Slipstream right now. It's great!

Inger said...

Well, since I don't participate in this Tuesday Teaser thing, I will just let you know I was here to say Hello!

Matt said...

Wow you can finish the book in a single day? I need to improve my reading skills haha. This one looks good!

DWei said...

You read so much. I'm starting to feel dumb in comparison. :P

Shelley said...

Nice teaser Golden Eagle. No, I've got no teasers. I haven't picked up a book in a while... :)

Pat Hatt said...

A single day? Wow it must be good, great cover too.

Christine Rains said...

Awesome teaser! I love adventure.

Jemi Fraser said...

Nice! I don't usually do gory books though - too much of a wimp :)

Sarah said...

This one is from Beauty Queens by Libba Bray.

"Agent Jones held up a small, white jar of Lady 'Stache Off."

Charles Gramlich said...

glad to see so much good YA stuff out there these days.

Samantha Sotto said...

Neat snippet - but your warning about gore scares me. I'm a loser that way :P

Such an intriguing teaser, thanks for sharing.

Summer Ross said...

great teaser- the description at the end is strangely alluring. Thanks for sharing.

Those two lines are awesome. I like gory. I may have to check it out.

nutschell said...

That's an action packed 2 lines!

Milo James Fowler said...

Is gory the new good for YA? Looks like I'll need to revamp my manuscript -- again.

Jennifer Hillier said...

Excellent teaser, and that cover is fantastic!

Rachel Morgan said...

Wow, that cover just shouts "action"!

Krispy said...

Oooh, that sounds exciting! Yet another series to check out. Ah, giant TBR pile, you will always be giant!

Jamie: It is, so far. Though I'm not that deep into the story yet. :P

Old Kitty: Glad you enjoyed the teaser!

The writing pad: I'm sure TT must seem a bit out-of-the-blue for people who don't know what it is . . . LOL.

Kudos to MizB for thinking up the meme. It's a lot of fun!

Yup. Sometimes more than that, if I've got a LOT of time. ;) Which doesn't often happen these days.

Stuart: Heading over! Thank you so much.

Daisy: Thanks!

Mine's been swaying and shaking for years. LOL.

Michelle: It is!

I've heard that book mentioned before, and it sounds really good.

Stephen: Awesome teaser! I love that it's from your own book. :)

Alex: Good old Seth Grahame-Smith, eh?

Ciara: It's an interesting cover, I agree!

I want to read that book.

Inger: Hello to you, too!

Thank you for coming by. :)

Matt: Smith's books aren't really massive tomes, the way some are--and the style isn't heavy on description, which makes the process faster.

DWei: Sometimes I think I just have too much free time. :P

Shelley: Thank you!

Maybe you'll find a good one to dig into soon. ;)

Pat: I like the cover as well. The covers for the Escape from Furnace series fit the books really well.

Christine: Me, too. :)

Jemi: I'm not a big fan of gory, either, but if the plot/characters are compelling enough (as in this case) I'll keep reading.

Sarah: I was just looking up that book. I love your teaser!

Charles: Oh, definitely. Though it's still quite possible to run into a bad one.

Samantha: I'm not a fan of violence in fiction. But I think the writing in this case is good enough to excuse it.

Petty Witter: You're very welcome! :)

Summer: Anytime. I was hoping people would like the description, since I found it quite interesting myself.

Michael: Hope you enjoy the book, if you do!

Nutschell: Yup. :)

Milo: I wouldn't really say that. YA is all over the board when it comes to violence. Just depends on how well it's written.

Jennifer: I'm glad you liked the teaser!

Rachel: It does. That's actually part of the reason why I like it.

Krispy: LOL. Mine, too.

Here's my 2 sentences from Possession by Elana Johnson, my current read.

Good girls don;'t walk with boys. Even if they're good boys--and Zenn is the best.

Kind of grabby, right? Thanks for the Teaser Tuesday fun.

Cherie Reich said...

Very cool cover and great teaser!

The Golden Eagle said...

Emily: It is. :)

Riya: You're welcome!

Memzie: It's an interesting cover.

Lynda: Hope you enjoy the book(s), if you try reading it!

Tfwalsh: Glad you liked it!

Elana: LOL. Yup, there's a fourth book out already. :)

Sharon: I've got my nose in multiple books as well.

Michael: You're the second person to say that. It must be good. :)

Talli: I thought it was, too.

Cleemckenzie: I remember those lines from when I read Possession. They're a great hook!

Cherie: Thank you!

That's an exciting teaser!

I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Page 55:

"Lousy Muggles," growled Hagrid. "If I'd known --"
"Harry! Harry! Over here!"

Not a big scene, but I just love the world muggles.

Elliot Grace said...

...gotta jot down a reminder for next Tuesday. This week would've been perfect, was hammering down on a great read!

The Golden Eagle said...

Sangu: Thanks. :)

There's really good writing in the Escape from Furnace series.

Theresa: Glad you think so!

I love your teaser. Muggle is a fun word to say. :)

Elliot: Well, there's always next week. I certainly don't think this meme is about to end anytime soon! :)

Great teaser and that cover is eye-catching.

Great teaser! Although the term gory makes me think I should avoid the actual book.
