The Hobbit Blogfest

M. Pax and Tyrean Martinson are hosting the Hobbit Blogfest (or Hobbit Fest) today, in celebration of the book and new movie. Being a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, I had to participate. It's a simple event--participants just post their answers to four questions about the story.

What is your favorite hobbit characteristic or the one that you think closely resembles you?
I don't think I have a whole lot in common with hobbits, other than being relatively short. My favorite characteristic of hobbits would be their determination in the face of difficulty, even if they don't appear very fierce in their peaceful lives at Hobbiton.

If you could choose between a scrumptious second breakfast and a perilous unexpected journey – which would you prefer?
Oh, probably the unexpected journey. I'd feel too lazy sitting around munching food (even if it was delicious) if other people were doing something.

Have you ever left behind something on a journey (expected or unexpected) and wished you could have it over and over again? (A pocket handkerchief?)
A camera. It drives me crazy to see something interesting and be unable to photograph it.

What is your favorite part or quote from the book that you hope will be in the movie?
You may have already guessed my answer to this one: The eagles! I'm also highly looking forward to the Lonely Mountain. And the elves. And Beorn. And Bilbo Baggins played by Martin Freeman. And--heck, I'm looking forward to  the entire thing.

Who else is excited for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey? Have any of you seen the movie, and if so, what did you think?

I'd like to think of myself as the adventurous type, but don't know if I could resist a second serving of a full English breakfast...

I am super excited, but nervous too, so many times the movies just dont live up to the book no matter how hard they try, ie THG

Hi Golden. Haven't seen the movie, but there was a big hoo-ha down here in the Southern Hemisphere as it premiered in NZ where it was filmed. Such a huge thing in NZ. Those who've seen the film say it's wonderful, as it is, I'm sure. Hopefully I'll see it over Christmas.

Can't wait to give the movie a go, hopefully it is good.

Great answers. I can't wait to see the Hobbit too. I just love J.R.R. Tolkien's work.

I have not seen the movie but I, too, am excited for the whole movie all around!

HaHa, I can see why you want to see the Eagles. They really did save the day more than once!

Luanne Smith said...

Of course you're looking forward to the eagle scene. :)

And I hate that feeling of not having a camera when seeing something spectacular you want to share with everyone else. Probably why most of my photos these days are done with my phone. :P

Fun answers. I hate losing things, too.

And you will not be disappointed when it comes to the eagles! Just got back from the film and it's excellent.

I keep forgetting my camera and wishing I had it . . .so I totally get your answer for that one, and the one about breakfasts and adventures . . .I like adventures - just not the perilous kind, but I wouldn't want to sit around and do nothing either.
I also really like the Hobbit characteristic of bravery in the face of adversity.
Thanks for joining the fest!

The eagles are pretty cool in the movie, so you're good there :)

I really enjoyed the film; it did a great job of expanding Middle Earth and all the epic stories that are told there.

Love your answers. I am so looking forward to this movie.

I would do an unexpected journey anytime, but one with peril? No thanks, I'll take another breakfast. haha

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm hoping that will be one of my holiday treats.

The eagles were a great part of this series. I loved those scenes, too.

Hehe! I think a person would need the second breakfast before they journey on an unexpected journey. :)

I'm hoping to see the movie next week. *crosses fingers*

I heard the Eagles are in the movie.

Thanks for festing hobbit style. :D I'm short, too, and love taking pictures.

Old Kitty: Well, it was the reluctant Bilbo Baggins who saved the day. :)

Mooderino: Mmm, English breakfast . . . yeah, I'm not sure I'd be able to set off on an adventure without snagging at least a little more food. LOL.

Running4him: I never watched The Hunger Games, but I'm also hoping The Hobbit will fulfill everyone's expectations!

Denise: I hope you enjoy it!

Pat: Same here.

Murees: He's one of my favorite authors. And definitely an amazing Fantasy writer.

Angela: It's nice to have a new movie to be excited about. :)

Gwen: I'm a big fan of eagles . . . in case you hadn't guess. ;)

Luanne: Yup.

My phone doesn't have a good enough camera--all the images I take with it come out fairly pixelated.

Carol: It's certainly annoying!

Alex: AWESOME.

Tyrean: Peril isn't quite so fun, true.

Thank you for hosting! :)

Mshatch: Oh, that's going to be amazing.

Tricia: Excellent idea!

Hilary: So glad to hear you liked the film.

Jamie: *relief* :)

I can't wait to see how they do Middle Earth.

Donna: Thanks!

Trisha: Peril in the raw doesn't appeal to me so much, either, but there's a little peril in all adventures, I think.

Cleemckenzie: Cool. :)

Cherie: Extra energy is always helpful.

Hope you get to see it!

Mary: You're very welcome. Thanks for hosting the fest!

Mot having a camera! That drives me bonkers, too.

Can't wait for the eagles too. There are so many good parts yet to come in the next two movies.

I've never read the books, but I can relate to the camera answer!

Elise Fallson said...

For the record, short people are awesome. (: And like you, I also get irritated when a great photo op pops up and I don't have my camera. Haven't see the movie yet, but I hope to soon!

Misha Gericke said...

I also ALWAYS wish I had a camera whenever I go somewhere. You'd think I could remember to take it by now.

;-)

The Golden Eagle said...

L. Diane: Yeah, it's annoying. :P

Susan: I can't wait to see them . . .

Laughingwolf: Agreed. At least there's more Hobbit to look forward to with three, rather than one. Or two.

I know I'll end up waiting until the DVD comes out. I hope they post some kind of release date soon.

Funny Pets: Indeed! :)

Rose: So bothersome, isn't it? I hate losing moments . . .

Elise: Definitely are!

I hope you like it. :)

Misha: I know--it's like forgetting to bring a piece of paper with me for when the writing ideas strike. I keep reminding myself to do it, but I keep leaving stuff behind.

Sangu Mandanna said...

HA! Love this blogfest. I would have so gone with the second breakfast, I think...

Deniz Bevan said...

Ooh, have you seen the movie yet? What did you think of the eagles? I thought they were quite impressive.

The Golden Eagle said...

Sangu: Probably for the better . . . no chance of dying!

Deniz: No, I haven't seen it. (Boo.) I'm pretty sure I'll end up waiting until the DVD release.
