Teaser Tuesday (10)

Teaser Tuesday is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading! And I even managed to remember that it was Tuesday before I started reading blogs.

Rules for participating:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

(I usually break rule 3.)

This week my teaser is from The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, which I took out of the library because it was on their "Banned Books" stand, which they surrounded with bright yellow CAUTION tape to highlight it--I do love that library. (The irony here was that they surrounded the entire YA section with the same CAUTION tape.)

"Let's do it," I said.
Hassan's face brightened. "Good," he said. He lifted out kite, red with yellow borders, and, just beneath where the central and cross spars met, marked with Saifo's unmistakable signature. He licked his finger and held it up, tested the wind, and ran in its direction--on those rare occasions we flew the kites in the summer, he'd kick up dust to see which way the wind blew it.

What are your teasers?

Hi!!! Great teasers! Nice~ That's over two sentences, you are so Badass! LOL :)) I still haven't read The Kite Runner. :) I'll be sure to check it out sometime! :D

P.S. There's not wrong with your spelling. XD

Hugs, peace and cookies,

Louisse: LOL. I hope you do check out The Kite Runner!

Misha1989: I'm enjoying it so far!

Sorry, I cheated. Watched the movie of this one but the teaser was great. :)

Wondering why this is a banned book though?

Thanks for visiting my teaser...

Yours is a great one. I loved that book - it is not one to be missed. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the same author is also very compelling, though very difficult to read as a woman.

THE KITE RUNNER has been on my bookshelf for ages! I need to read it soon.

I've never read that book, or (I don't think) even heard of it! Is it good? What a fun meme and a great teaser! :-)

Have a lovely day!

I read this book years ago and thought it was very powerful. Not something I could read again, though. Thanks for visiting my teaser!

Gosh it's been FOREVER since I've flown a kite. Hope you enjoy your book :)

Come read my teaser from Noah by Jacquelyn Frank

I love "The Kite Runner" :) Unfortunately, the only books I have in my immediate proximity right now are for my studies. Somehow I'm not tempted to write a "teaser" about Middle East history (as we all know how it ends...)

I loved the movie and brought the book after seeing it. Can't wait to read The Kite Runner. The accolades are enormous and I have my Kleenex box ready.

Oops! Didn't realize that you didn't want URL's in here!

Anyway, The Kite Runner is an awesome book! What a great choice!

I think it's TOO funny that your library put caution tape around the entire YA section!

Hi again, thanks for visiting my teaser.
I hate to admit this, but inspite of temporarily owning a copy of this book, I haven't read or watched the movie...whats ur take on the book?

Anachronist said...

Thanks for visiting, I do like your teaser! It is becoming slightly silly that "banned books" movement; soon enough they will warn you just in order to get you interested in a book...

This has been on my tbr pile forever!

Library sounds ACE!

What a great teaser! Now I haven't read this one yet but I've heard so many great things about it - I'd better add it to my list :)

I also love your story about the YA collection in your LIbrary - what a great idea!

Thanks for sharing

The Kite Runner sounds like a really good book! Loved your teaser.

Any guess as to why it's a challenged/banned book?

Great teaser!!! I loved this! I should pick up this novel! Thanks for sharing!

I read The Kite Runner and liked it but my husband didn't like it at all. Your library sounds great--funny how they promote the books!

Jules: I didn't know there was a movie until you mentioned it!

I finished it yesterday night . . . the only thing I can think of is racist remarks from some of the characters and rape/abuse. But that's all over the place, isn't it? So I guess it's just another one of those anomalies.

Sarah: I hadn't known he'd written another book! I should check it out, since I The Kite Runner was a powerful novel.

Hannah (Kincade): Hope you like it!

Hannah: It is a good book!

You should try this meme sometime. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Lady Q: I probably would read it again . . . after I let it stew in my mind for a while.

TheBookishSnob: I've never flown a kite, actually--they always seem to break around me, or the wind isn't right. :P

Cruella: Sadly. I hope you enjoy your studies, though!

Aisle B: I didn't need Kleenex after I read this, but I did need some thinking time.

Jewelknits: It's not the links I don't like, it's just the whole http:// thing. So if you want to leave a link then I'm fine with it.

The Kite Runner is a good book, I agree with you there! :)

Dee: Read it, although don't expect anything . . . cheerful. There's hope, but there's also a lot of darker content.

Anachronist: I know, I've been noticing that. They'll say "this was banned!" and suddenly it's a bestseller. Ah well. As long as people are reading!

Marieke: It is a good library. :D

Mlisame: If you do decide to read, I hope you enjoy The Kite Runner!

Golden Eagle said...

Amy: Awesome! Happy reading!

Christina: Maybe your library will get it or something? Because it is a good read. :)

Mrs. Q: I did enjoy reading it!

Gina: Thank you!

Smellincoffee: As I said to Jules, probably the rape/abuse/racist remarks. Other than that and some language, there's really nothing . . .

Jen Daiker: You're welcome!

Clare: It was a pretty cool display. :) They took it down recently, but there are other things up now, still interesting.

Shelley: Thanks!

Karen: Well, I liked it! Glad you did, too. :)

Clarissa: Too bad! I would have liked to see your teaser. :)

Lee: Well, I don't think the meme is going to end anytime soon, so there're plenty of weeks ahead!

Nancy: Yup, it was banned . . . glad you like the teaser!
