Happy Father's Day! (+ Why I Haven't Been Blogging And Other Random)

To all the dads in the blogosphere and elsewhere: Have a wonderful holiday!

**********

(Note: I don't often post random stuff, but I feel like doing it today . . . so I am. Hope none of you mind.)

As some may have noticed, I haven't blogged in a couple days, and that's if you count the little I did on Thursday. Last week I had a series of end-of-school-year tests (9, to be precise; did okay) and a dress rehearsal/dance recital (went better than the last test I took--hooray), so things were busier than normal. My apologies for disappearing without prior announcement; I didn't even get around to replying to your comments on Thursday's post (which I will do once I've published this!).

**********

My writing's also been dragging the past few days. I'm behind 3000 words for reaching a goal of writing 30,000 words in June, so I have to hustle with that one. I'm still pantsing the story, as I mentioned in "I Though I Was A Plotter", and it's . . . interesting so far. LOL. Still making better progress than I was a couple months ago.

**********

On a slightly-related subject, I was never particularly big on the whole "listening to music on your computer" thing, preferring to play CDs on another device, but I've found adding favorites (especially movie soundtracks; Sherlock Holmes and How To Train Your Dragon are current favorites) in YouTube playlists has been quite conducive toward word count.

Unless it's The Piano Guys, in which case I find myself stopping every minute or two to watch and not just listen. (Hey, who wouldn't want to see someone skydiving with a cello? Or playing musical instruments in gorgeous locations? Really, if you haven't seen them before, go check out their videos.)

***********

When did you last take a break from blogging, social networking, or writing? How are your current projects? Do you ever listen to music while you work on creative endeavors? If so, what kind?

Insecure Writer's Support Group: I Thought I Was A Plotter

The Insecure Writer's Support Group is hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh.

From his blog:
It’s time for another group posting of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group! Time to release our fears to the world – or offer encouragement to those who are feeling neurotic.

Now, my post this week is about the time-honored question: Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Most writers, I think, consider themselves to either be in one camp or both. I used to consider myself a die-hard plotter, i.e. that writer who had the entire novel set out by Chapter 2 or 3.

But I'm participating in a writing challenge this month to hammer out 30k during June, and to be honest, I have no inclination to plot. At all. In fact, I'm having quite a lot of fun just writing on-the-fly, filling in the blanks as I go along.

A good part of my mind is shouting at me to plot. The other part is thrilled. Since it's been a long time since I really felt inspired to write anything novel-length (as I do now) I've decided to try pantsing my way through this novel. It will probably--in fact, I'm sure it will--be even more of a mess than if I plotted it. But it's a first draft, and there are always revisions. Right?

As for whether I'm a plotter or a pantser . . . well, I figure it doesn't matter so much so long as I'm actually writing something.

Have you ever questioned your plotter/pantser status? Which are you--or are you a mix?

30,000 Words

I'm going to try to write 30K words in a month! I usually write a lot anyways, so I thought, why not get some credit for it? I'm not going to post my writing (I don't want it copied/stolen) but I will give you guys updates on how I'm doing! Go join yourselves! It's going to be a a lot of fun no matter how I do, I'm sure. :) Here's the link:
