On Fire for Alex J. Cavanaugh's CassaFire!

It's the big day, everyone! It's the release date of Alex J. Cavanaugh's new book, CassaFire (sequel to CassaStar).

The goal is to help CassaFire “catch fire” on the best seller charts and achieve the success of the first book, CassaStar. There’s also a special package of prizes being given away at the author’s blog (copies of CassaFire, CassaStar, tote bag, mug, and bookmarks) as well as book giveaways during his two-week blog tour. See Alex’s site for details.

About the book:

CassaStar was just the beginning…

The Vindicarn War is a distant memory and Byron’s days of piloting Cosbolt fighters are over. He has kept the promise he made to his fallen mentor and friend - to probe space on an exploration vessel. Shuttle work is dull, but it’s a free and solitary existence. The senior officer is content with his life aboard the Rennather.

The detection of alien ruins sends the exploration ship to the distant planet of Tgren. If their scientists can decipher the language, they can unlock the secrets of this device. Is it a key to the Tgren’s civilization or a weapon of unimaginable power? Tensions mount as their new allies are suspicious of the Cassan’s technology and strange mental abilities.

To complicate matters, the Tgrens are showing signs of mental powers themselves; the strongest of which belongs to a pilot named Athee, a woman whose skills rival Byron’s unique abilities. Forced to train her mind and further develop her flying aptitude, he finds his patience strained. Add a reluctant friendship with a young scientist, and he feels invaded on every level. All Byron wanted was his privacy…

A review of his novel CassaStar, from Library Journal:

“…calls to mind the youthful focus of Robert Heinlein’s early military sf, as well as the excitement of space opera epitomized by the many Star Wars novels. Fast-paced military action and a youthful protagonist make this a good choice for both young adult and adult fans of space wars.”

Trailer (you really should see this, because it's amazing):

The Great Blogging Experiment Blogfest begins tomorrow! There were 153 entries last time I checked--those are a lot of blogs to read, but I know I'm going to be visiting at least a few! I might have to do a lot of it on Saturday, but I'll at least be visiting the people I follow. :)

You can still join if you haven't yet! *gasps* Just go HERE.

*****

I have been invited to celebrate Icewolf's 200th Post Party! Thanks, Icewolf!

The rules are to pass it on to three people, then have them pass it on to three others. (If you're not familiar with Da Lovely World of What-Not, then here's the explanation: Icewolf sets up situations and you and your characters type out scenes; those scenes are built on by other readers and the story expands into what's usually full-blown action!)

Choosing only three is going to be difficult, but here are my picks:

Caroline
Katie/Popular Joker
and
Brena

Guinevere's Blog Party

In addition to being a blog party, this event is also part-giveaway, and it looks awesome! Basically, if you go over to Guinevere's blog and follow her blog, (there are other ways to get extra entries) you are entered into a giveaway for either a complete makeover at Robin Blogs, (first place), and extra at Inspired Designs, (second place), or an extra at The Boutique Window (third place).  I've checked out the sites--they have some great stuff!

Right. On with the Blog Party . . .

1. What has been your favorite part of summer so far?
Enjoying the sunshine!
2. What is your favorite part of autumn?
All the holiday preparations and the colorful maple trees.
3. Raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens?
Raindrops on roses! Kittens are . . . well, they're cute, but then they grow up into cats and they're not-so-cute.
4. Describe your dream house.
Can't I have some time!? Oh well, I guess right now my dream house would be in the hills in a meadow with lots of trees and an excellent view of the stars. But it would have to be in a safe area, too.
5. What's your favorite movie?
That's tough. I like Harry Potter, though!
6. Quote something from the book you most recently read:
"If this isn't nice, what is?"--Timequake, but Kurt Vonnegut.
7. What do you like/not like about my blog?
I love love love the header, Guin! I love the crystals on the right side.
8. Rain or shine?
Shine! Though I love rain now and then . . .
9. The worst grammatical mistake, in your opinion:
"There so ---!" or "Their it is!"
10. If you had a choice, would you want to live: in the mountains, in a rainforest, on a prairie, or by the beach?
Mountains!
11. What character from a book would you say you are most like?
Oh, Katsa. I love Katsa!
12. Be constantly talking the rest of your life or not be able to communicate in any way for the rest of your life?
Be constantly talking. I'm sorry, it might sound like I'm trying to be annoying, but I want my views to get across!
13. Owl City or Switchfoot?
I've never listened to either . . . *looks sheepish*
14. Taylor Swift or Selena Gomez?
Ah, could you tell me who Selena Gomez is? 'Cause I certainly know who Taylor Swift is. Oh, hold on, I'll Google her . . . hmmm. She's one of the Barney kids! *ahem* Okay, okay . . . I guess Selena Gomez. I've never heard her though, so I'm just sort of randomly choosing. (Because I don't like Taylor Swift all that much.)
15. Your pet peeve?
Doing things unevenly. If I do something with my right hand, I get the urge to do it with my left hand. Good thing I'm fairly ambidextrous.
16. What's your favorite font?
Eurostile! Preferably bold.
17. How are you educated? (i.e. homeschooled, public schooled, private schooled)
Homeschooled, and proud of that fact!
18. Do you consider yourself tomboy-ish or feminine?
I'd like to say I'm a tomboy, (although my mom says I'm more feminine) but that's playing to a stereotype. I've had enough dealings with stereotypes.
19. What's your favorite song?
Here I Am--Bryan Adams. I guess . . .
20. Did you enjoy answering these questions?
Yes I did, Guinevere Amoureaux!

11. Why do you blog?

Now, for my answers!

1. It's summertime! What's your favorite thing about the season?
Plant life! Flowers, trees, etc., they're all green or colorful, unlike winter, which is visually drab.
2. What got you started on Blogger?
Seeing author blogs, and then noticing the followers' blogs. I just decided that it might be fun to start my own.
3. What's the most fun thing that's ever happened to you? (So far.)
I've had a lot of fun moments! Maybe dance recitals; backstage, when everyone's hyped up. I never really got stage fright, so it was a blast for me.
4. Do you like reading? If so, what's your favorite book/genre?
Yes, I like reading! I prefer Fantasy/SF/Adventure books, and one that encompasses all of those is Artemis Fowl. I'm a Fowl fanatic. :P
5. Computers or other type of electronic? (e.g. cell phones, tablets, etc.)
Computers! They can do everything nowadays.
6. Do you like to swim?
Don't know how. Maybe falling into a lake gave me a dislike of getting my face wet . . . ?
7. Concerning music, what do you typically listen to? (If you listen to music.)
Classical, when I do. That, and sometimes jazz music, like Peanuts. (Don't tell me you've never heard the Marsalises play Buggy Ride. LOL.)
8. Cicadas; what do they make you think of?
Hot summers and bright sunshine.
9. Would you bungee-jump, if given the chance? Have you ever?
Maybe! If I could have a good look-see just to be sure that the ropes were totally secure. :P
10. Just out of curiosity, do you follow 100+ blogs?
Yup. 107 blogs so far. :)
11. Why do you blog?
a) Because I like writing. b) Because I can express my opinions. c) Because it is FUN.

This is separate, but here are my answers to her questions:

1. Why do you have the blogger name that you have?
Eagles rock!!

2. Do you have any siblings?
Nope. I'm kinda glad of it, too.

3. Coke or Pepsi?
Neither. I only drink water (and the occasional juice) and I hate carbonated drinks.

4. What are your feelings about thunderstorms?
As long as they don't blow out electric circuits, I love thunderstorms!

5. Do you prefer the sound of a trumpet, or the sound of a flute?
Either!

6. Vegan, Vegetarian, Omnivore, or Carnivore?
Omnivore. I usually eat vegetables AND meat for dinner.

One that doesn't need excess cleaning up after, doesn't smell bad, and loves to socialize with me. :)

8. Describe your dream life when you grow up.
Finding new animal species out in the field as a biologist.

9. Pick a color and write a poem about it.
Black, the color of the night
Black, the shade of the shadows
Black, the tone of the endless sleep
(It's not my favorite color, all right? But it's the first one I thought of.)

10. Compose a song or conduct the band?
Compose a song!

11. Novels or comics?
Novels! But the occasional graphics aren't so bad either . . .

14. Do you want to learn to surf?
I guess, once I learn to swim.

15. Which are you more afraid of- Sharks, bears or snakes?

Not yet. I'm currently at 54.

Classical.
