Teaser Tuesday (18)

Time for Teaser Tuesday! This weekly meme is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

Rules for participating:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week, my teaser is from Behemoth, by Scott Westerfeld, the sequel to Leviathan. It's a steampunk/science fiction series, and it's probably my favorite out of all the series/books he's written so far. Plus, the illustrations are amazing.

(Personally, I love Leviathan's cover, but I don't really like Behemoth's. And I really don't like the UK cover--they should have stuck with the original, blue-with-wings one that was apparently replaced.)

"Does getting shot hurt much?" she asked.
"Like a mule kicked me."
"Hmm. I've never been daft enough to let that happen."
-p.50

If you have a teaser today, please feel free to share it in the comments!

I love your reviews! You're so enthusiastic that it makes me want to run out to the library and grab these RIGHT NOW!

Seriously, though, I'd really like to read these this month. December is my designated read like a fool month :P

Loved Leviathan, and I actually bought this book (as opposed to downloading it to my nook), but I haven't read more than the first chapter yet since I spent all of November revising an old novel.

I think I'll save it for my Christmas vacation time. I'll have a lot of books I want to read by then, I'm sure!

I'm not familiar with this series but I love the teaser.

I don't know about getting shot but being kicked by a mule sure does hurt :)

You know I love your teasers. Here's mine.

Oops, I got caught without my teasers ready!

Ooo, I've been dying to read this. But I agree, I'm not in love with the cover.

Thanks for the teaser. :)

I love this idea...my book is in my gym bag in the car which is parked down the block because the construction guys 'stole' all the close spots...and it's FREEZING out there (17 degrees) soooooo...I'm just gonna try and remember to do this later!

Morning! Nay, afternoon. This is from the novel by Laura Eno, Don't Fall Asleep.

Cassandra watched Nathan's animated movements. He told a great story.

Have a great day.

I've been wondering about that book. I've picked it up several times in the bookstore! I may get Leviathan. Thanks for the teaser.

Great teaser! I loved Leviathan, but haven't had a chance to re Behemoth yet (maybe I'll get a chance to read it next year). ^_^

I think you enjoy my teasers from my high fantasy, still editing, almost done, The Treasures of Carmelidrium, so here's a brief one.

Chapter 43 Sorry, I won't know the page until it is published.

Prince Wann of Shea-Talon peered through the spyglass at the synmberveen on the Plains of Gil-Lael. He'd been schooled in the art of warfare. The symberveen represented a chance to receive an honorable scar. Wann had heard that Prince Healden had such a scar, but Healden covered his injury instead of displaying his prowess.

I invented the symberveen monsters. That was really fun.

I haven't read Westerfeld yet, but I have the Uglies series. I've heard great things about his writing and hope to get to him. I'd also like to read steampunk.

Great teaser!

Mine is up as well as my first giveaway. Please do visit.

I know! the teaser sounds really funny, I still don't get why they want to have 2 different covers, aren't images universal?

Alice Audrey said...

LOL, sometimes those mules will sneak up on you. Great cover.

My teaser is here.

ali said...

Ha! Good one.

I only just liked Leviathan, didn't love it. I'll read Behemoth, but I'm not in a hurry.

I agree the illustrations were amazing though!

ah, who can resist a book with illustrations :)))

That is a good one! I always enjoy reading your teasers!

I haven't been kicked by a mule, but one of my horses got me good. Sent me flying through the air. I thought I was headed to my final resting place, for sure. :)

Love the teaser. Very cool.

Leviathan was OH SO AWESOME! I'll definitely be buying Behemoth. Thanks for such a great review.

Hello Golden Eagle! Love the teaser!

Currently reading Cookie by Jacqueline Wilson.

Here's the teaser:

Mum came right into my room and switched on the light. I looked desperately at the mirror, wondering if it could have magically mended itself during the night. P101.

I like the book titles. They sound like monster movies from the 1950s.

I love your reviews too, they always make me so interested in the book! LOVE that teaser, especially, it's completely made me want to pick it up!

The Words Crafter: I'm always enthusiastic about books--you should see me in the library. :P

Good for you! I hope you get tons of reading done!

Tere: I hope you enjoy reading Behemoth! It's just as good as Leviathan and the illustrations are, again, amazing.

Jules: Glad you like the teaser! :)

I hope you don't speak from experience!

Your secret is safe with me. ;)

Carrie: Thanks, Carrie!

Julie: I hope you get to read them! They're worth the time.

You're welcome!

Angela: I'm glad you like them, Angela! :)

I wonder what the wind smells like, exactly. Great teaser!

Brian: Well, sometimes I do, too! LOL. I just pick up the book I finished, or the one I'm starting next . . .

Shannon: I don't like the kid on the front cover--I can't even tell if it's Deryn or Alek!

You're welcome!

Vicki: I hope the construction guys leave so you can get the closer parking spots! And that the weather gets warmer where you are--BRRR! I wouldn't want to go outside, either!

Clarissa: Morning, now! :D

He's animated? Interesting!

Love the teaser!

The Golden Eagle said...

Elana: Thank you!

Hope you get around to reading it soon!

Terry: It's a really good series--I can't wait for the last book in the trilogy to come out!

You're welcome! :)

Orchid: Thanks, Orchid!

Yup, there's always 2011!

L'Aussie: And when you can only post a few sentences (technically it's only supposed to be 2, but oh well . . .) it's best to say as much as possible!

Nancy: I love reading teasers from your book! :) Keep coming back so I can read more!

Symberveens sound like amazing creatures--wow. And it's an interesting tradition, getting a scar from one of them. It sounds like there's a history behind that!

Medeia: I'd say that the Leviathan Trilogy is better than the Uglies Trilogy, although I know a lot of people really like Uglies. The last book in the Uglies Trilogy was my favorite.

Steampunk is one of my favorite sub-genres, since I love Science Fiction and it relates well.

Alison: Deryn and Alek together are some pair. :D

I hope you read the books!

Old Kitty: The old one, the one that they didn't go with in the UK, is blue with wing-like metal structures on it--it matches Leviathan better.

Thanks, Old Kitty!

Mystica: Thanks! And thank you for stopping by my blog! I love new people. :)

I'll be sure to stop by!

The Golden Eagle said...

Joanna: Nope. Apparently, there was one cover that never got released because someone (IDK if it was the editor, publisher, or the author) didn't like it or whatever, and they got a new one, the one you see here. The current UK on is worse--it's too blue.

Alice: I can just picture a mule sneaking up on someone . . . LOL. :D

Ali: Thanks!

Too bad you didn't really like it--have you tried the Uglies Trilogy yet?

DEZMOND: Not me, that's for sure!

Kelsey: Thanks, Kelsey! I'm glad you do! :)

Robyn: Oh dear! I'm very glad you're still with us, Robyn!

Thank you!

You're welcome for it!

Len: Glad you like it, Len!

Oh, I love your teaser! It makes me curious as to what the character wants to have disappeared.

Lori: We all have our different genres! That's one of the great things about Teaser Tuesday--it lets everyone blend together and share a whole different mash of books. :D

Joann: Thank you!

Me, too--it makes me laugh, although that's probably because it sounds funny to my American ear.

Jemi: I completely agree!

The Golden Eagle said...

Mardel: He's a good author--at first, I didn't like his work, since the first book in the Uglies Trilogy--Uglies--didn't appeal to me, but then other books he wrote grew on me. He's not my ultimate favorite, but he writes well. :)

Reading Lassie: I hope you enjoy Leviathan!

Donna: It's a fun meme--I hope you do participate sometime! :)

You're welcome!

Well, it's a fairly easy thing to forget, since there's so much happening in the blogosphere!

Lee: Yes, they do--although I've never watched a monster movie from the 1950s. :P

Sangu: Thanks, Sangu! :)

The two books in the trilogy that are out so far are really good--they're worth the read!
