Teaser Tuesday (20)

This is my 20th Teaser Tuesday post!

Wow. 20 weeks! I remember when it was still something like 7 . . . and a lot of you have been around for the entire duration!

But besides my own little milestone, this weekly meme is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

Rules for participating:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

(Some of the other covers are so unappealing . . . I don't know why it's so hard to find a really good SF book cover.)

My teaser is from The Positronic Man by Isaac Asimov. I just finished it yesterday, but since I'm not sure what I will be reading next I decided to post from the book:

"Are you saying you don't want me to put the trousers on?" Andrew asked.
   "I didn't say that."
"But you think it's a peculiar idea."
   "You do."

(Note: Andrew is the robot, the main character in The Positronic Man.)

If you have a teaser, please feel free to share it in the comments! :)

Husband dearest has many of this authors books but I don't think I've seen this one though as you say it may have a different cover. And like Brian I'm sitting here with my book downstairs, apologies that I have no teaser for you.

Sounds rather comical!

Here is my teaser from Lipstick in Afghanistan by Roberta Gately (Page 1):

"Do you hear it?" The voice was almost a whisper.

Elsa held her breath, and then she heard it too, a faint rustling of footsteps over twigs and leaves. Out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed several shadowy figures darting through the trees, and when she turned, she saw a glint of sunlight reflecting off the barrel of an assault rifle.

There was no denying it—the Taliban had found them.

Oh, Jesus! she thought. We'll never escape.

Elsa knew the Taliban's ruthless hatred; the death and destruction they wrought was undeniable.

Seized by a sickening wave of fear, she wanted to cry or throw up, but there was no time. She tried to catch Parween's eye, but her friend was looking back, intent on finding the source of the sound.

"Run!" someone shouted, and suddenly, the chase was on.

Here are a couple of teaser sentences from the book I'm reading now, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini --

"At night, Laila lay in her bed and watched the sudden white flashes reflected in her window. She listened to the rattling of automatic gunfire and counted the rockets whining overhead as the house shook and flakes of plaster rained down on her from the ceiling."

I couldn't move. I stared at Aunty Em's gnarled claws, and tried to fight the groggy trance the old woman had put me in.
"Such a pity to destroy a handsome young face," she told me soothingly."Stay with me, Percy. All you have to do is look up."

Here's an excerpt from Talli Roland's first novel The Hating Game:

The promo team had done a great job, Nate thought as he looked at the photos again. She could be on cover of GQ -- or even Nuts.

I'm reading Dogsled Dreams by Terry Lynn Johnson - it's FANTASTIC and will be coming out in a few weeks :)

'Who needs roller coasters when you've got sled dogs,' thought Rebecca. She grinned and felt her face crinkle in the cold air.

LOL, I haven't read too many SF books but I think my friends would like this.

It makes a lot more sense now that I know Andrew is a robot. I can't even believe I've never read any Isaac Asimov. I'll have to do something about that.

Congrats on your 20th teaser! I usually do participate but for once I'm not reading anything at the moment and there isn't one single book nearby.

I hate it when I'm not reading anything. That must change later tonight!

What a great dialogue line. It could work in a LOT of different scenarios.

Brian: That's okay! :)

Moosie got a home?! HOORAY!

Tracy: I get confused with covers as well; there are too many different ones out there. :P

Rachel: Actually, based on the rest of the book I found it kind of disturbing . . . LOL.

Tribute Books Mama: I've never heard of that book, it does sound interesting; I enjoy reading books that take place in the Middle East!

Carrie: You too, Carrie! :)

Madeleine: I've never heard of Commander Data . . . is that a bad thing?

Mist of the blossom rain: It is an interesting story--all the Asimov books I've read have been.

Patricia: I have that book out of the library right now! Thanks for sharing a teaser from it!

Cinette: Oh, I love that book!

Clarissa: Well, since I don't know what GQ or Nuts is, I can't really compare . . . LOL. Great teaser, though, and awesome that it's from Talli's book! :D

Old Kitty: Thank you!

Caroline: It is a funny part of the book; one of the more amusing, compared to the rest of it.

Alex: Enjoyable, although disturbing at times. And the ending I did not see coming!

Jules: Er, #5?

Reading Lassie: Thanks! :)

Jemi: LOL, yeah, who does! It sounds like fun . . . cool teaser!

(I follow Terry Lynn Johnson's blog.)

BLHmistress: Pass it on, then! :)

Susan: I thought it might be confusing, so I made sure to mention it for the readers.

You should! He's an amazing writer.

Jennifer: Thanks!

I hate it, too; it feels like I'm seriously missing something.

Carol: It could!
