Teaser Tuesday (22)

MizB at Should Be Reading hosts this awesome weekly meme.

The rules to participate:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week, my teaser is from Grendel by John Gardner. Technically I'm reading it for school (homeschool, actually) but I'm enjoying the book and I finished other novels.

(I like this cover.)

When her strange eyes burned into me, it did not seem quite sure. I was intensely aware of where I sat, the volume of darkness I displaced, the shiny-smooth span of packed dirt between us, and the shocking separateness from me in my mama's eyes.

I love this story! It was one of the required reading that I really enjoyed. But then I love Norse tales!

Ooh, that cover is neat. It took me a second to figure it out, and I like that.

And I'm teased.

This was the first John Gardner book I read, many years ago, and I really loved it. Might be time for a reread. Wonderful teaser!

I liked yours! I'm reading the owner's manual to a samsung galaxy tablet...not a teaser in the whole book!

I like that cover too. My teaser comes from a memoir.

"Why I Left the Amish." by Saloma Miller Forlong. I don't generally read memoirs, however, this one I won on a blog book tour. It is well written and so far I'd rate it a 5 out of 5.

Even though the Amish people didn't help my family financially or in an ongoing way, they did help in customary ways, such as a "frolic" that helped lay the foundation for an addition to our house.

Now, I don't know about you, but a "frolic" to me is a bunch of children running and laughing while waving ribbons in the air. The above sentence lets you know right away, that a "frolic" to the Amish is a gathering of workers to help build something.

Hope you enjoyed that.

What a cover and a teaser!

I'm reading Matched by Ally Condie. Here's my teaser:

"Even if he sees it, it's a napkin, I tell myself, looking at the brown square on my tray. We incinerate them after every meal, and it's even the right kind of paper, not like the one Grandfather gave me."
