Teaser Tuesday (13)

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading!

Here are the easy rules for joining:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today, my teaser comes from Sunwing by Kenneth Oppel, the companion to Silverwing. Both of these books are part of the Silverwing Trilogy, with Darkwing as its prequel. They're science fiction/speculative/dystopian novels told from a bat's perspective. I've read the first in the trilogy and Darkwing--I recommend all of his books.

(This was my favorite out of all the cover art.)

He heard the voice, and it took a moment before he realized it was him shouting.
"Don't go there!" he wailed into the wind, again and again.

-p. 107

If you have a teaser, feel free to share it in the comments below. :)

I love your teaser, there's so much emotion in it!

A book series from the perspective of bats? Now that sounds different. And now I remember what I had planned on posting today. I've been all caught up in devising my NaNo novel for the past couple days and have been lost in writerly disorientation. I'll have to preschedule some Teaser Tuesdays so I don't forget.

It's the first time I've come across this series. A book written from the perspective of a bat, should be interesting!

I loved that series! It got a bit complicated in the last book, but it was so worth it!

Wow, what great lines.

Here are some more lines from Death of the Heart by Elizabeth Bowen:

Covent Garden just after six o'clock, with its shuttered arcades, was not gay. Across the facades, like a theatre set shabby in daylight, and across the barren glaring spaces, films of shade were steadily coldly drawn as though there were some nervous tide in the sky.

Oh, I love this book!

Super cover. Super teaser too. A bat's eye view. Great idea. Love it. :)

Here's a teaser from "The Poisonwood Bible."

"Inside a grove of trees the mothers threw themselves on mounds of dirt that covered their children. Crawled on their hands and knees, tried to eat dirt from the graves."

Cdmaczane: Thank you! And thanks for commenting on my blog.

Lee: It is different, and it's written very well.

I'm sure the writerly disorientation will wear off and things will settle down into a schedule. :)

Julie: Great! I hope you read the book, then.

Kelsey: Glad you think so.

Lydia: I love Oppel's books because of that.

Smellincoffee: Some of the other's aren't as catchy, but this on is a good cover.

Arielle: It is!

Jennifer: Purpose of TT, after all! ;)

Old Kitty: You're welcome.

You too. :)

Holly: I end up writing down several titles at least whenever I visit the other entries!

Aisle B: He's talking to the other bats.

Marieke: :)

Nancy: Editing, huh? Well, I hope you have a productive time with it!

Icewolf: I love complicated--I'll have to get around to reading Firewing. :D

Clarissa: Dark and slightly creepy. Great teaser!

Robyn: Glad you enjoyed it!

Lucy: Disturbing, but very intriguing. I'll have to find out more about that book!
