Writer's Platform-Building Crusade!

The Writer's Platform-Building Crusade is hosted by Rachael Harrie at Rach Writes..... I have decided to join in on this event, designed to increase your platform and connect you with others who share your love for writing and "want to pay it forward in the spirit of writerly writerness and blogging beautificity".

It sounds like an awesome idea, doesn't it?

According to the site, to join up yourself, you just have to post about the Crusade and leave a comment saying you wish to join along with your link right HERE.

Anyone else for building their writing/blogging platform?

You did ask readers to mention typos and other problems, so may I draw your attention to the following sentence:

"Among the things I post about are the world, politics, science, miscellany, books, movies, homeschool, and a wide range of other subjects."

What is wrong with it? If you start a sentence with "among", "include" or something similar, you shouldn't add an etcetera at the end. I would reword it as

"I post about the world, politics, science, miscellany, books, movies, homeschool, and a wide range of other subjects."

I hope you don't think I'm some kind of grammar nazi, but as a former editor of academic textbooks I always changed sentences like yours, for the reason outlined. My only interest is in clarity and precision.

I note that you forbid the posting of blog URLs, so I'll leave you with my version of your sentence:

"I write political and social commentary, discuss the use and abuse of language, describe Hong Kong from the perspective of a long-time English resident, and provide an insight into aspects of Chinese culture that I find interesting or intriguing."

Alex: Great!

Marieke: I'm excited to be joining you. :)

Old Kitty: All the support is an amazing thing. :D

Rachael: I'll be sure to check out the other Crusaders!

Clarissa: Cool!

Dennis: Thank you for that information! I'll remember that about adding things like that to sentences. And I will change the "wide range of other subjects" since I definitely see your point.

Actually, (although this doesn't have anything to do with grammar), I was adopted from China as a baby--I don't remember anything about it, so I don't talk about Hong Kong or anything like that.

Stephen: You're welcome!

Nancy: I hope you join us!

Jennifer: :)

I decided not to do that particular blog fest... too many edits.
If you're interested, I posted on giveaways and contest today including my first ever contest.
