Teaser Tuesday (57)

Teaser Tuesday again, everyone. This weekly meme is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

Rules:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week, my teaser is from a book I started a while ago but never got around to actually reading beyond the first few pages. I really should read Dune, by Frank Herbert, but there are just so many other books in my TBR pile it's ridiculous . . .

She parted a jungle overlapping of leaves, looked through to the center of the room. A low fountain stood there, small with fluted lips. The rhythmic noise was a peeling, spooling arc of water falling thud-a-gallop onto the metal bowl.

Great imagery in this teaser.

I have Dune, but I haven't read it yet. Yeah, I know I should too. :)

My teaser this week was from G.L. Breedon's THE WIZARD OF TIME.

Dune is such a wonderful book. Love this cover.

I'm not a sci fi fan, but I loved Dune. I've read it twice because it's unmatched (imo) in the ability to evoke place without paragraphs of scenery description.

What a great teaser. I've never read Dune before. Wasn't amovie made after it?

Such beautiful writing! Great teaser.:)

I love Dune. It is one of the greatest books I have ever read. I've read Children of Dune, and God Emperor of Dune as well. Herbert blows my mind away. Most of the modern writers today including J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer cannot hold a candle to his genius. Sure they make more money by far but money isn't everything. George R.R. Martin is probably his equal and so is Neil Gaiman.

That's a short list.

It's been so long since I've read Dune. I've read quite a few of the series, but not all.

That is great imagery. i like the senses that are accessed in a few sentences.

It took me a while to figure out that cover! It's pretty neat. I personally haven't read a whole lot of sci fi.

It makes me sad I haven't been able to read a book for pleasure since summer! So much reading for school. Ah, the life of an English major. I have to finish The Great Gatsby by tomorrow (read it in high school too!) and Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises by Monday.

Nice teaser. It's been so long since I've read Dune.

I'm not reading anything at the moment. Need something though. Just can't find anything. I just read through all seven Harry Potter books, so that's a tough act to follow.

Loved the book and the film! Kyle Maclachlan was a super cute, er, perfect choice for the movie :)

Cherie: I liked it, too. :)

Maybe we could read it together.

Will be over to check it out!

Charles: I'm looking forward to starting it!

The cover attracted me when I first saw it.

Connie: I love good description. :)

Old Kitty: I actually noticed it on several lists during the Worst Movies Ever Blogfest . . . I do want to see the movie once I finish the book, though. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!

J. A.: That happens to me, too. :P

Shelly: Thanks!

Yup, there was.

Emily: Glad you enjoyed it!

Michael: I love Neil Gaiman--I really should read something by George R. R. Martin sometime.

Lynda: There are a lot of books in the series, aren't there?

Josh: I do, too. Part of the reason I posted a teaser from this book. :)

That 20 Something Virgin: I agree. It's a unique sort of cover. :)

Hope you get some time to read a book for fun! There are some great classics--but it's nice to be able to choose what you read.

Christine: Thanks!

Stephen: I feel that way after reading (or rereading) a good series, too; nothing comes up to par with it.

Samantha: I'm looking forward to seeing the movie--once I finish reading the book, of course. :P

That teaser really brings the scene alive! I could almost hear the fountain.

C D: I thought the passage did, too--part of the reason I posted it. :)
